Frequently asked questions

What does the share of positive funding tell me?
It is the part of perpetual markets where longs pay shorts right now. Above roughly 70% the market is leaning long and paying for it; below 50% shorts dominate, which usually follows a sell-off. It is a crowding gauge, not a price forecast.
Why do so many markets sit at exactly 0.01% per 8 hours?
Most exchanges add a fixed interest component of 0.01% per 8 hours and clamp the premium around it, so a calm market pays exactly the default. That is why the distribution has a bin of its own for it: markets away from 0.01% are the ones where traders are actually leaning.
How is the market funding calendar calculated?
For each UTC day, every one of the 20 most traded coins gets its average funding across the exchanges that list it, then the coins are averaged with equal weight, so one coin listed on many exchanges does not outweigh the rest. Figures are per 8 hours.
Why does average funding differ between exchanges?
Each exchange has its own users, collateral and funding formula. Venues popular with leveraged retail longs tend to pay more, and some exchanges cap or smooth their rates. A venue that is consistently higher than the rest is a natural short leg for funding rate arbitrage.
