Crypto Position Size Calculator: Size Trades by Risk
A position size calculator tells you how much to buy or short so that a stop-loss costs exactly the amount you are willing to risk. Enter your account size, risk per trade, entry and stop price.
- Position size
- $2,000
- Quantity
- 20
- Amount at risk
- −$100

How it is calculated
- Risk amount = account size × risk per trade
- Stop distance = |entry − stop| ÷ entry
- Position size = risk amount ÷ stop distance
- Required leverage = position size ÷ account size
Frequently asked questions
- How much should I risk per trade?
- Many traders risk 0.5% to 2% of their account per trade, so a losing streak does not wipe out the account. This is a convention, not advice.
- Does leverage change the risk?
- Not if the position size is the same. Leverage only changes how much margin you post; the loss at the stop depends on position size and stop distance.
