How it is calculated
- Fees per leg = position size × (entry fee + exit fee)
- Total fees = fees per leg × number of legs
- Fees as % of position = number of legs × (entry fee + exit fee)
- Exit fees are estimated on the entry value; a price move changes them slightly.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between maker and taker fees?
- A maker order adds liquidity to the order book, such as a resting limit order, and usually pays a lower fee. A taker order fills immediately against existing orders, such as a market order, and pays the higher taker fee.
- What is a leg?
- A leg is one position in a trade. A plain long or short has one leg; an arbitrage that buys on one exchange and sells on another has two, and each pays a fee to open and to close.
- Are fees charged on margin or position size?
- On position size (notional value). At 10x leverage, a 0.05% taker fee on entry and exit costs 1% of your margin for the round trip.
