Crypto Average Price Calculator: DCA Entry Price and Total Cost
An average price calculator works out your cost basis when you buy a coin in several steps. Enter the price and amount of up to five buys; empty rows are ignored.
- Average price
- 88
- Total cost
- $220
- Total size (coins)
- 2.5
How it is calculated
- Total cost = Σ (price × amount)
- Total size = Σ amount
- Average price = total cost ÷ total size
- Fees are not included; add them to the cost for an exact cost basis.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the average price a simple average of the buy prices?
- No. It is weighted by amount, so a buy of 2 coins counts twice as much as a buy of 1. Buying 1 coin at $100 and 1.5 coins at $80 gives an average of $88, not $90.
- What is dollar-cost averaging?
- Dollar-cost averaging (DCA) means buying a fixed dollar amount at regular intervals. You buy more coins when the price is low and fewer when it is high, so your average price is never above the simple average of the prices.
