Break-Even Calculator for Crypto Trades: Price Move to Cover Fees
A break-even calculator shows how far price has to move before a trade stops losing money to costs. Enter the entry price, side, entry and exit fees and any funding paid to see the break-even exit price.
- Break-even exit price
- 100.10005
- Required move
- 0.100%
How it is calculated
- Long: break-even price = entry × (1 + entry fee + funding) ÷ (1 − exit fee)
- Short: break-even price = entry × (1 − entry fee − funding) ÷ (1 + exit fee)
- Required move = |break-even price − entry| ÷ entry
- Funding is the total paid over the holding period as a % of position size.
Frequently asked questions
- How big a move do I need to break even?
- Roughly the sum of your entry fee, exit fee and funding paid. With 0.05% taker fees on both sides and no funding, a trade needs a move of about 0.1%.
- Does leverage change the break-even price?
- No. Fees and funding are charged on position size, so the break-even price is the same at any leverage. Leverage only makes the costs larger relative to your margin.
- What if I receive funding?
- Enter funding received as a negative number. It offsets the fees, and if it is larger than them the break-even price is better than your entry.
