Crypto Stop-Loss Calculator: Stop Price From Your Max Loss
A stop-loss calculator turns the most you are willing to lose into a price for your stop order. Enter the entry price, side, position size and a maximum loss in dollars or as a percentage of the position.
- Stop price
- 98
- Distance from entry
- 2.00%
- Loss at stop
- −$100
How it is calculated
- Stop distance = max loss in $ ÷ position size, or the max loss in %
- Long: stop price = entry × (1 − stop distance)
- Short: stop price = entry × (1 + stop distance)
- Loss at stop = position size × stop distance
Frequently asked questions
- Is the percentage of my position or of my account?
- Of the position. A 2% stop on a $5,000 position loses $100. To risk a share of your account, enter that amount in dollars or use the position size calculator.
- Will I lose exactly this amount?
- Not always. Fees, slippage and price gaps can fill a stop-market order beyond the stop price, so the real loss can be larger.
- Does leverage change the stop price?
- No. The stop price depends only on position size and the loss you accept. Leverage matters only if the liquidation price is closer than the stop, so keep the stop inside it.
