How to read the heatmap
Rows are the most traded perpetual futures by 24-hour volume, columns are exchanges, most-listed first. Every figure is that market’s funding rate in percent per 8 hours: +0.010 means longs pay shorts 0.010% of their position every 8 hours. A dot means the coin is not listed there.
A column that is greener than its neighbours is an exchange where longs are more crowded. A row that runs from red to deep green is a coin the market disagrees about, which is where funding rate arbitrage starts. Switch to the 24-hour or 7-day average to see whether a color has lasted or is a spike, and open any cell for that market’s history.
Frequently asked questions
- What does the funding rate heatmap show?
- Each cell is the funding rate of one coin on one exchange, converted to 8 hours so hourly and 8-hour venues compare directly. Green cells mean longs pay shorts, red cells mean shorts pay longs, and the deeper the color, the larger the rate.
- Why convert funding rates to 8 hours?
- Exchanges pay funding every 1, 4 or 8 hours, so their raw rates are not comparable. Rate ÷ interval hours × 8 puts every market on the 8-hour scale most exchanges quote. Hover or focus a cell to see the rate exactly as the exchange quotes it.
- What is a normal funding rate?
- On most exchanges the default is 0.01% per 8 hours, which is why calm markets look pale green across the map. Rates far above that mean longs are crowded and paying heavily; negative rates mean shorts are paying.
- How do I use the heatmap for funding rate arbitrage?
- Look for rows where one exchange is deep green and another is pale or red: going long where funding is lowest and short where it is highest collects the difference. The funding rate scanner prices that trade for your balance after fees and slippage.
